2004 Accomplishments as reported to Board and benefactors in December 8, 2004 letter:
Operation CHILD CARDIO CARE UA has coordinated sponsors for over 30 children’s cardiac surgeries in 2004. Not only are organizations undertaking OpCCCare-UA fund raising projects, but individuals also are making donations or memorials of $1,000 to purchase the consumables required for a specific child’s surgery that can be performed in Ukraine.
- Operation CHILD CARDIO CARE US brought 10 children to America for surgery in 2004 as part of the ongoing alliance with Rotary and area hospitals.
- OpCOT provided opportunities for three medical professionals to participate in observational training at NYU Medical Center in NY and Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia. We strongly believe that increased exposure to US case management approaches and surgical as well as intervention techniques will advance self-sufficiency in the area of pediatric cardiology. Their newly acquired knowledge is not only being utilized but also shared with their peers in Ukraine.
- Through the UGOL program, OpCURES, the Pediatric Post-operative Intensive Care Unit at Lviv Surgical Center has been completely refurbished and a UGOL committee has been formed to purchase or source equipment, linens and other furnishings. In early 2005, there will be an official ribbon-cutting to open this unit. In addition, 100’s of pounds of useable equipment and supplies have been shipped during the year.
